Odissi is recognized as one of the eight classical dance forms of India. The lineage was one of the oldest temple dance traditions dating back to over 2000 years. It was the oldest surviving temple dance which only ended in 1950. The temple tradition is no longer performed, but today the dance is widely celebrated as an historical art form.
