Artisan Details
Most of the metal workers in Haiti have their workshops in the Noailles Village, on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince. With rare exceptions, they work entirely with hand tools to cut and hammer recycled oil barrels in the artwork you see on this site.
Behind The Brand

Dandarah is a Canadian women-owned brand based in Saint-Lazare, Quebec. At the heart of Dandarah’s collection is a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and the artisans who preserve age-old crafts. Our collection of high-quality home decor and fashion accessories is ethically handcrafted by master artisans in Egypt and Haiti. It is rooted in traditional crafts, such as Egypt’s age-old handweaving, glass blowing and handmade pottery, and Haiti’s sustainable metal art crafted from upcycled oil drums.
Dandarah is founded and operated by two sisters, Hala and Nour Scandar. Born and raised in a multicultural household in Egypt, to an Egyptian father and a Lebanese mother, their parents awakened in them a love for all types of arts and crafts, and an appreciation for their makers. Hala and Nour have over 25 years of corporate experience each in her respective field; Hala in computer engineering and project management, and Nour in financial services. They continued to pursue their professional careers after immigrating to Canada over 16 years ago, until they decided to put their passion for craftsmanship and sustainability into action by launching Dandarah.
As a fair trade verified business, Dandarah focuses on using trade to effect positive social, economic and environmental change in the communities where it works and beyond, with an emphasis on providing fair opportunities to women artisans. Dandarah donates 1% of sales to support nonprofit organizations focused on the environment, and another 1% to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Canada.
Dandarah aims to bring cultures and people closer together through the beauty of handmade. Each piece in Dandarah’s collection tells the unique and beautiful story of people, lands and traditions.
