The Story Behind Ste.Marg.Scot Flowers
Ste.Marg.Scot’s flowers were born from our passion for making the most of our precious 100% heirloom wool and our obsession with colourful, unique accessories. We collected the wool pieces from our cutting room floor, transforming what is often discarded, into wearable art. A labour of love, each flower is unique – hand cut and crafted by our team of artisans.

The collection features a few of our most beloved blooms, the peony and ranunculus, symbols of charm and fantasy sure to bring year round joy by adding a pop of sophisticated colour to any outfit.

The Ranunculus
Ranunculus flowers, also known as the Persian Buttercup and Coyote’s Eyes, are known for their delicacy and complexity. These flowers grow abundantly along streams, and the Latin translation of ranunculus means ‘little frogs’. There are 2 prominent myths about the ranunculus.

The first legend comes from an Indigenous American story of a bored coyote that plucked out its eyes to entertain itself. An eagle swooped down and stole the eyes, and after searching blindly for them, the coyote replaced them with buttercup flowers. Ranunculus flowers represent vision and clarity of thought across various cultures and are often given to encourage someone to see things clearly or to signify a fresh perspective on a situation.

The second legend centers on a Persian prince that was turned into a ranunculus flower by nymphs after singing to his love day and night.

The Ranunculus is a wonderful gift, often given to express love and devotion or to signify a fresh perspective on a situation.

Behind The Brand

Founded in 2022, Ste.Marg.Scot is a made-in-Canada company challenging the sea of sameness monopolizing outerwear. They make warm, vibrant, and gender-inclusive woollen coats, with a free-from plastics and metals ethos. Their mission is to brighten dark days by reconnecting people to colour and nature.

Sasha Jardine is the Founder and CEO of SteMargScot, and her mission is to change the face of wool from drab and traditional to fresh, functional, and fashionable. Like many entrepreneurs, Sasha's journey has not been straightforward. She immigrated to Canada from Guyana, a Caribbean country. She partially attributes her longing for bold bright colours to her Caribbean roots.

Sasha holds several degrees (BSc, BEd, MSc), worked as a science educator for over 10 years, and performed research at Sickkids. Her work in drug discovery was awarded by Sickkids and published in the top gastroenterology journal. Sasha's background in science made her aware that most of the coats offered today are derived from non-renewable resources, i.e., synthetics and plastics from fossil fuels and metal zippers from mining.

She founded SteMargScot to challenge the complacency around synthetics in outerwear. Sasha is a member of the Canadian Wool Council's Policy Committee and advocates for the revival and revaluing of wool. SteMargScot has been spotlighted several times on national television, featured in ELLE Canada, nominated for best emerging brand by the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards, and was the first brand to have a popup with Sporting Life.
