Benefits of Using Handmade Soaps

Written by Pricilla Miller

In the world of soap making, most commercial soaps aren’t true soap at all. Instead, they are usually made with unnatural ingredients, which are similar to detergents, and they often contain harmful add-ins including parabens, petrochemicals, phthalates and triclosan, which all leave the skin feeling irritated and dry, and overall has damaging effects on your health.

The most significant difference between handmade soap and commercial soap is the shelf life. Handcrafted soaps contain natural ingredients and therefore have a shorter shelf life of about 8-12 months. Commercial manufactured soaps on the other hand have a shelf life of 2-3 years, because of all the chemicals and preservatives added.

For these reasons and many more, I decided to make handcrafted soaps that are not only beautiful, they also smell great, are safe for you to use, and have incredible benefits for your skin. Our soaps are made with natural organic products, such as pure oils, herbs and clays. The benefits of using these natural ingredients are endless. For example, rose clay and activated charcoal are common ingredients to look for, due to their fantastic properties:

Rose Clay:
A great exfoliant for the skin, it reduces irritation, increases circulation, regenerates collagen, promotes new cell growth for skin, and regenerates elastin within the skin. Rose clay also brightens skin and improves skin tone, and is a great absorber of excess oil.

Activated Charcoal:
Absorbs toxins, which is why activated charcoal in soap theoretically binds to dirt and oil on the skin and helps clear out pores. Charcoal also helps to reduce acne and tighten pores.

So the next time you think of buying a bar of soap, take a moment and think about the effects it can have on your skin. When possible, choose natural soaps to keep you looking and feeling beautiful from the inside out.

It’s good that you mentioned that handmade soaps contain natural ingredients without chemicals and preservatives added, so even if their shelf life is shorter, they won’t leave our skin feeling irritated and dry. I’m trying to be more proactive about the bath products I use since I noticed how dry my skin has been lately, so I have decided to buy ones that contain natural ingredients. I’ll keep this in mind while I look for a skincare store in Winnipeg that sells homemade body products that I might be interested in buying soon. https://www.bettysgardensoaps.com/product-page/essential-oil-bar-soaps
